PALOS HILLS, IL — The girls varsity golf team at Amos Alonzo Stagg High School is calling on the community to help them raise funds for the team, all while helping people in need in Central and South America and Africa.

Continuing through May 21, the team will collect donations of new and gently used shoes at a drop box at the north doors of Stagg High School. Athletic and casual shoes, kids shoes, flats, dress shoes, boots, sandals and plastic cleats will be accepted.

Slippers, high heels and shoes with holes or tears should not be donated, golf coach and science teacher Bill Laschober said.

The shoe drive, hosted by Angel Bins, will also serve as a fundraiser for the team. When shoes are collected to be donated to recipients in various countries, the school will receive funds based on the amount of shoes collected.

According to Angel Bins's website, the organization has helped more than 3,500 charities raise over $2.5 million since 2012.

"Our goal is to reach as many charities as possible looking for an easy, nothing to buy or sell program to raise lots of money for their programs," the site reads. "In doing so, they’re providing those in need the means to not only create jobs, but also have someone else walk in their shoes."
