Stagg Set To Host Premiere Engineering Conference For HS Students

PALOS, IL -- Stagg High School is organizing Explore Engineering, a Chicago-based STEM conference for high schoolers on Thursday, April 18th from 6 - 9pm. Explore Engineering is aimed to introduce high schoolers to the field of engineering through the form of breakout sessions which students can explore the 6 “pillars” of engineering consisting of software, mechanical, electrical, chemical, civil, and environmental engineering which are led by professionals in these fields followed by showcasing over 30 nonprofits and companies across the nation such as IBM, Argonne National Laboratory, Discover Technology, Lurie Children’s Hospital, and more!

Explore Engineering is planned under the direction of Monica Para, a Stagg Senior and a Palos Hills resident. Inside the walls of Stagg, she is an AP student, both the co-founder for the local Girls Who Code club and Science National Honor Society, and a former Track and Field Athlete. The event is also co-directed by Stagg Seniors Alexa Barstatis and Musa Ibrahim both of which are AP students, ISAC Illinois State Scholars and are heavily involved in the Stagg Community whether that is through participating in varsity athletics (Alexa is a 4-year Volleyball and Badminton player), robotics, or both co-leading the Science National Honor Society Chapter at Stagg. All three of the directors along their team members are passionate about the rapid increase in STEM and want to be a part of this worldwide change.

“Explore Engineering’s primary goal is to give high school students the chance to discover their passion for engineering, and for STEM as a whole. Student-led, Explore Engineering focuses on the students and their futures whether it be through the various college advisors or the companies that students have the ability to be a part of in the near future. High School students have so much potential and with the current industry leaders on board, innovation is just a matter of time. Explore Engineering will run Thursday, April 18th and is open to everyone, take a look into what the future is capable of.” Musa noted in a press release.
