Thanksgiving 2017: What's Open, What's Closed In Palos

PALOS, IL -- It's almost time to sit down with the family and feast on turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie. While some people — including employees at some retail stores — will be working on the holiday, many area businesses and offices will be closed, giving workers a day off.

Here's a list of what's open and what's closed in Palos Park, Palos Heights and Palos Hills:

Village of Palos Park: Closed Thanksgiving Nov. 23 and Friday Nov. 24

Palos Park Recreation Center - Closed

Palos Park Library - Closed

City of Palos Hills - Offices closed through Nov. 26

Palos Hills Community Center - Closing at 3 p.m. Nov. 22 and will re-open at 9 a.m. Monday, Nov. 27

Green Hills Public Library - Closed

City of Palos Heights - Closed Thanksgiving Nov. 23. City offices will reopen Friday, Nov. 24. Garbage collection for entire city will take place on Friday, Nov. 24.

Lake Katherine Nature Center - Closed; tree lighting 6:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 24.

Palos Heights Public Library - Closed

Orland Square Mall - Open 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. Thanksgiving, Nov. 23

Chicago Ridge Mall - Open from 6 p.m. to midnight Thanksgiving, Nov. 23

U.S. Post office - ClosedFederal Offices- Closed

Grocery Stores - See which grocery stores are open Thanksgiving Day in the Palos area.

Retailers - National retailers that are expected to open on Thanksgiving include Best Buy, Kohl's, Macy's, Sears, Target and Walmart. Target says it will close at midnight on Thanksgiving, then reopen at 6 a.m. Black Friday morning. Dozens of other retailers are taking a stance against opening on Thanksgiving. Call ahead to make sure.
