CN100 Game of the Week preview: 2015 IHSLA Lacrosse Championships

See the 2015 IHSLA Lacrosse Championships on the CN100 Game of the Week.

NAPERVILLE – It’s certainly no surprise to see New Trier competing for another state championship in boys lacrosse; it’s kind of what the Trevians do.
The defending state champions have won 10 titles all told and are a regular fixture in the state title game.
The Trevians’ usual opponent, Loyola, is not opposing them this year, however. No, this year, Glenbrook North crashed the party and will face New Trier for the state championship at 6 p.m. Saturday at Naperville Central. The championship for the B-Class, the Lacrosse Cup, will be contested at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, with Maine South and Warren hooking up. Both games will be broadcast by CN100. Visit CN100.tv for air dates and times.
From 2005-11, New Trier won the state title with Loyola taking second place. The three years prior to that run, Loyola won the state title. The two years between 2011 and last year also saw the Ramblers win the state title.
This time around, New Trier will have to forge a new rivalry in the quest for its 11th state title. As usual, the Trevians (17-4 overall, 15-0 in the IHSLA) have plenty of firepower to pull it off. A whopping five players have earned All-American honors for the Trevians, six are all-state selections and 10 appear on the Central Suburban League all-conference team.
The All-Americans are at all levels of the field for the Trevians, who beat Lake Forest 17-9 in the semifinals. They are senior goalkeeper Johnathan Anastos, junior midfielder Colin Casas, senior attacker Ben Connelly, senior LS/MF Jack Hill and junior defender Tyler Seminetta. Joining them on the all-state team is senior attacker Steen Jorgensen. New Trier’s all-conference selections, in addition to those six, are junior attacker Chris Brower, junior defender Danny McDermed, senior midfielder Will Rossi and senior defender Robby Snyder.
Glenbrook North (17-5, 13-4), topped St. Viator 11-5 in the state semifinals. The Spartans have never played for a state title or Lacrosse Cup in program history.
Senior defender Tommy Metzger leads the way. He is an All-American, all-state and all-conference selection. Junior midfielder Nick Hildgendorf is an all-state pick. Senior defender Jake Charen, sophomore LS/MF Jake Deutsch, senior attacker Mike McFarland, senior midfielder Logan Nein, senior midfielder Kyle Slovis and senior goalkeeper Chad Yale were all-conference picks in the CSL.
Warren, last year’s runner up in the Lacrosse Cup, is hoping to break through this year. The Blue Devils (19-2) toppled Geneva 12-5 Thursday in the semifinals.
Warren is led by several all-conference picks in the North Suburban Conference. Senior defender Brendin Duckett, senior goalkeeper Jeremiah Heredia, senior attacker Tanner James, senior faceoff specialist Zach Khoury, senior midfielder Scott McCarthy and junior defender Joe Poremba are key members of the Warren squad.
Maine South (14-5) reached the Lacrosse Cup finals for the first time by virtue of Thursday’s 16-0 thrashing of Cary-Grove. The Hawks are a balanced unit, as evidenced by the fact that 12 players scored in Thursday’s win.
Maine South is led by senior midfielder Sam Daly, senior attacker Nick Gallo and senior defender Marc Larocca.
