Flood Garbage to Be Collected in Park Ridge for Two Weeks
While garbage including flood debris will be picked up on normally scheduled days, Shawn Hamilton, acting city manager of Park Ridge, said residents can put all their garbage at the curb for pick-up as soon as possible because more pickups would be made

Some Park Ridge residents will receive additional waste removal services during the next two weeks, according to city officials. Shawn Hamilton, acting city manager, said crews typically used for yard waste disposal would be deployed by Park Ridge’s waste removal services provider, Republic Services, or ARC, based in Mount Prospect, to pick up debris from recent flooding in the area.
In an interview with Patch, Hamilton said while garbage including flood debris will be picked up on normally scheduled days, Park Ridge residents should put all their garbage at the curb as soon as possible because more pickups would be made as needed during the next two weeks.
“Put it out; get it out of the house,” Hamilton said. “We’re picking up anything anybody puts out there, we’re not ticketing residents for putting stuff out there; we’re getting the debris taken away for the next two weeks.”

Approximately 120 residential basements were reported to have flooded as a result of the storm last week, Hamilton said, but he believed more than the number reported to the city actually flooded. Still, Park Ridge did not have any road closures, Hamilton said. Some of its neighbors, including Des Plaines, Hamilton said, did not fare as well.
“In general — knock on wood — we’re in good shape right now,” Hamilton said. “We had some basements flood; we had some issues, but we’re in good shape.”

One important thing Park Ridge residents can do, Hamilton said, was report their flood damage in a questionnaire linked on the city’s website. The 10-question survey, which includes information about location, insurance and the extent of the damage, could help Cook County, and thereby Park Ridge, qualify for disaster relief funds from the government.
If all of the damages in , Hamilton said, if any are available from state or federal sources.
