Joseph Wayne Miller, Salami Sam In 'Heavyweights,' Dies

Park Ridge native Joseph Wayne Miller, who was known for his role as Salami Sam in a 1990s hit film, died in his sleep at age 36.

CHICAGO, IL - Joseph Wayne Miller, the actor whose best known for his role as Salami Sam in the 1995 hit movie "Heavyweights" has died. Miller's mother told TMZ that her son died in his sleep at his home in Chicago on Tuesday. The 36-year-old who grew up in Park Ridge suffered from sleep apnea, she said.

Miller's Salami Sam character was one of the campers at Camp Hope, a weight loss camp for kids, in Heavyweights. The movie starred Tom McGowan, Aaron Schwartz and Shaun Weiss among others. Kenan Thompson and Ben Stiller also made appearances in the movie that made more than $17 million at the box office.

The Heavyweights role was the only film credit of Miller's career.
