Letter to the Editor and Community from a Football Mom

Kids are not the only ones who love football. Hear from a Mom of four boys who play.

Mom Loves Watching Youth Football

I love the Fall! It’s always been my favorite season. Now and about this time a year, I get excited that I have four boys who can’t wait to once again play football in our town. My husband helps coach one or two of them each year, and really loves teaching their friends the fundamentals of the sport he played.

In 18 combined seasons of football, we have had only a few minor injuries. In fact as the mom of four boys, I have seen far more bumps and bruises from them falling off chairs, riding skateboards down slides, jumping on beds, or even backyard trampolines.
And despite all the sports talk and shows I have heard or listened to intently as their mom, I just really love watching them having fun with their friends. Love to watch them learn the respect and attitude that football players possess. Love to see them be successful when they do well, make a great play, and of course when they win. Love the lesson they learn when they get beat.

From my perspective, a sense of humor, self-confidence, courage, and even humility will get you a long way in life. Each Fall, I get to watch them develop some of those skills on those Friday nights and Saturday mornings in Park Ridge. I wouldn’t trade those days for anything and of course neither would they!
