CHICAGO — A Chicago man has been ordered held without bail two weeks after he allegedly fatally stabbed a suburban father of six. Gino Bassett, 56, of the 6100 block of South Ingleside Avenue, has been charged with first degree murder and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection with the slaying of a suburban software entrepreneur last month in Chicago's River North neighborhood. Miguel "Mike" Beedle, 55, of Park Ridge, was stabbed around 2:30 a.m. on March 23 in an alley in the 400 block of North State Street following an altercation with the Woodlawn resident, according to police.

Police said that Bassett stabbed Beedle in the neck before fleeing to the CTA Red Line station at Grand Avenue and State Street, where he threatened a pair of women, aged 21 and 26, with a knife in a station stairwell before running away again.

Beedle was seen on security camera footage bleeding as he stumbled out of the alley before collapsing at the corner of State and Hubbard streets. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital and pronounced dead at 2:42 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office, which ruled his death a homicide.

Bassett was arrested around 10:20 a.m. on Wednesday after investigators learned of his whereabouts, police said in a release.

Beedle was the founder and CEO of the software company Enterprise Scrum, among others. He is survived by six children, ranging in age from 1 to 19.

At his bail hearing Friday, prosecutors said Bassett attacked Beedle as he left a bar and pushed him into an alley. He was seen on surveillance video walking out of the alley a little while later.

Judge Michael R. Clancy ordered that Bassett remain held without bail at Cermak Hospital, citing his criminal record and history of missing court dates, according to WGN-TV. His public defender said he has been diagnosed with schizophrenia and other mental health issues.

Basset's next court appearance has been set for April 25.
