Park Ridge Native Luke Gregerson Earns 2 Saves in MLB Playoffs

Chicago-area native's effort not enough as Houston Astros fall to Kansas City Royals in five games.

Houston Astos relief pitcher Luke Gregerson, a Park Ridge native who played high school baseball with Morton High School and later collegiately at Saint Xavier University, earned two saves in the Astros’ American League Division Series against the Kansas City Royals.

The strong effort from Gregerson, who struck out four and walked two in three innings of relief in the series, was not enough as the Royals prevailed in the series three games to two.

Gregerson emerged as the Astros closer this year after previously spending time in middle relief for the St. Louis Cardinals, San Diego Padres and Oakland Athletics. He once held the all-time MLB record for holds with 40 in a season when he was with the Padres.
