Park Ridge and Niles elementary and middle schools to have nurses

Registered nurses will be in all District 64 schools starting in the 2017-2018 school year.

The Park Ridge-Niles School District 64 Board of Education voted on November 14 to place registered nurses in each of the district's eight schools, Park Ridge Herald-Advocate.

The district already employs a traveling registered nurse, two certified student nurses and eight health assistants. The registered nurses would be able to administer medications and injections.

As of last spring, according to data given to the school board, 42 students across the district took medication during the school day, 164 students had EpiPens, and there were six students who may need an emergency medication administered during a seizure.
