Rep. Stephens Announces "Highlight A Hero" Program

CHICAGO – Illinois State Rep. Brad Stephens of the 20th District of Illinois is proud to announce the launch of “Highlight a Hero 20/20,” a community social media contest created to honor the residents and workers of Illinois’ 20th District who are making a positive impact on their community during the COVID-19 pandemic. Beginning today, 20th District residents and workers can be nominated to win gift cards from 20th District restaurants who remain open for takeout and delivery during the pandemic.

“It is important to acknowledge the amazing work that so many people are doing to make other people’s lives a bit easier during this pandemic,” said State Rep. Stephens. “From a dedicated first responder to the neighbor preparing food for a family in need, all acts of kindness offer a notable impact and I’m proud to recognize the heroes behind them.”

Every Friday beginning April 24, 10 heroes from the district will be selected by an outside committee and each awarded a $100 gift card to a 20th District restaurant. Those who nominate a winning hero will also receive a $50 gift card to the same restaurant. Participating restaurants include The Blossom Café (Norridge), Chick-fil-A (Norridge), Firewater Saloon (Edison Park), Frannie’s Beef & Catering (Schiller Park), The Great Escape (Schiller Park), Moretti's Ristorante & Pizzeria (Edison Park and Rosemont), Portillo’s (Harwood Heights and Park Ridge) and Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers (Harwood Heights), among others.

Nominations are available through a contest portal on www.repbradstephens.com/hero. In order to participate, nominators must fill out the contest submission form on the portal as well as post their nomination on their personal Facebook Timeline, tagging Rep. Stephens (@BradStephensForStateRep) and using the hashtag #HighlightAHero2020. Posts should include a brief description of the hero and their act of kindness while living or working in the district during this time. Photos and videos are encouraged. New nominations will be accepted each week for the duration of the program and all submissions not chosen will roll over to the following weeks. The program is scheduled to run through June 26, 2020.
