Snapchat Threat Caused Maine South Lockdown

A 16-year-old boy was taken into custody in Park Ridge after police said he made threats about a gun on social media.

PARK RIDGE, IL - A 16-year-old Maine South High School student could face disorderly conduct charges in juvenile court after police said he made a threat on the Snapchat app last week. The alleged threat caused a soft lockdown at the school on Friday.

Police took the boy into custody after they were told by a Maine South administrator that a student who was not on campus at the time might be in possession of a weapon, according to a report from the Park Ridge Herald-Advocate.

The lockdown lasted for less than an hour, police noted in a community Nixle alert last week.
