Widow of Park Ridge alderman will run for city council
Wilkening is no stranger to local politics

Gail Wilkening will be running to become the 3rd Ward alderman of Park Ridge in April 2017, according to the Park Ridge Herald-Advocate. Her late husband, Robert Wilkening, was elected to the city council in 2015, but died later that year.
Wilkening hopes to focus on flood control and infrastructure improvements if she is elected to serve the last two years of what would have been her husband's four-year term. She has lived in Park Ridge for 41 years, and she served on the Park Ridge Park District Board between 1997 and 2005, including three years as president of the board.
Rick Van Roeyen was appointed to fill the empty 3rd Ward alderman seat in 2015, and he plans on running for the seat in 2017.
