Chicago-based United Airlines will be removing the automated walkways that move traveler’s through the Concourse C in Terminal 1 of O’Hare Airport, according to a Chicago Tribune report.

Currently, four out of the eight walkways have been closed off by the airline, and they should all be removed by spring 2016, the report stated. The walkways in the tunnel that connects United’s Concourse C with the airline’s Concourse B will not be eliminated, the report added.

The reason for the removal of the walkways, which were installed more than two decades ago? A United spokesman told the Tribune that getting rid of the walkways will let travelers move across the width of the concourse easier to reach gates and businesses, the report stated.

A walkway-less concourse might leave some people who use the conveyors because they have trouble walking or because they want to save time looking for other ways to comfortably and quickly get through the terminal.
