1,200-Gallon ALS Ice Bucket Challenge
Ozinga concrete mixer delivers big for mother and son in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.

When Barb Alford and her son, Joel, were nominated for the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, they decided to go big. Really big. Joel, of Crestwood, who drives for Ozinga Bros., Inc., a Chicago-area concrete company, knew what must be done. He would fill his 36,000-pound concrete mixer with 1,200 gallons of ice-cold water. His mom, who works for Ozinga in Ready Mix Dispatch and lives in Oak Forest, had to be convinced.
On Wednesday in Ozinga’s Alsip yard, the bucket was tipped. Recycled water was used, reclaimed and recycled, according to Ozinga, which is headquartered in Mokena.
