Accidental Shots Fired Near Veterans Woods In Romeoville: Police

Police said a legal gun owner accidentally fired a gun inside a vehicle.

ROMEOVILLE, IL — Accidental shots were fired near Veterans Woods in Romeoville Friday, leading to closure of two access areas, according to Will County Forest Preserve District Police.

At around 2:20 p.m., police received a call about possible shots fired at Veterans Woods. Officers soon determined that it was an isolated event, and a legal gun owner had accidentally discharged a gun inside a vehicle.

The two access areas — Roy F. Hassert Grove and Traders Corner — were closed while the investigation was on, and were reopened Saturday.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and no charges have been filed.
