ROMEOVILLE, IL — Parts of Interstate 55 that run through Will County will undergo construction beginning in the evening June 7 if weather permits, the Illinois Department of Transportation announced.

The project includes repairs to bridges on the highway over U.S. 30, Canadian National Railroad, Mink Creek and an abandoned railroad in Will County. The first stage, beginning June 7, includes installing a temporary concrete barrier that will require overnight lane and shoulder closures in both directions on I-55 between Weber Road and Interstate 80.

At least two lanes in both directions will be open at all times. Daytime traffic won't be impacted, and access to entrance and exit ramps will remain, according to the release.
