Thanks to community generosity, the Romeoville Community Food Pantry has continued to serve families weekly throughout the Covid pandemic. “We are so grateful for the kindness of the Romeoville community,” says coordinator Teresa Linaweaver.
According to Linaweaver, in addition to an increase in individual donations, the pantry has benefited from grants, including a $5,000 grant from General Motors.
The grant allowed the pantry to procure necessary items when grocery stores and partners like the Northern Illinois Food Bank had difficulty keeping goods in stock. The substantial grant from GM meant the pantry’s service to families was uninterrupted during difficult times, when pantry usage has more than doubled.

The Romeoville Community Food Pantry is located at 2 Belmont Drive and is currently open for drive through style service every Saturday, 9:30am to 11:30am. Linaweaver noted it is uncertain at what point the pantry will return to its regular schedule of alternating Tuesday evening and Saturday morning self-selected item pick up. Visit the pantry on Facebook for more information.
