Manley Encourages Constituents to Follow Halloween Safety Tips

New from the Office of State Representative Natalie Manley

With Halloween quickly approaching, State Rep. Natalie Manley, D-Joliet, is reminding families in the 98th District about helpful safety tips for trick-or-treaters.

“Halloween is a memorable time for families and fun for kids, as they dress up and go trick-or-treating with their friends,” said Manley. “However, it is important for parents to be reminded of some information that will ensure that their children remain safe on Halloween Night.”

According to the National Safety Council, parents should make sure that costumes are fire-resistant and that makeup is nontoxic. If children are going out after dark, they should wear reflective tape or carry a glow stick. Young children should be accompanied by a responsible adult, and older children going alone should review a route with a parent and agree on a time to be home. Children should never enter anyone’s home or car, and they should wait to start eating treats until they have been inspected. Finally, motorists should drive with caution, especially as it gets dark during trick-or-treat hours.
