New U-Haul Self-Storage Coming To Romeoville Next Year

"New buildings and new businesses are always a positive for the local economy," said Mayor John Noak.

ROMEOVILLE, IL — Two new redevelopment projects are coming to Romeoville next year, according to a village news release. Officials said the Village Board has reviewed plans for two "challenging sites," a new U-Haul self-storage building at the corner of Gaskin Drive and Weber Road and a redevelopment of the old 84 lumber site on Independence Drive.

The proposed U-Haul development would include a three-story, 46,000 square-foot building. The building would house 626 storage units, including 457 climate-controlled units, ranging in size from 5-by-5 feet to 15-by-20 feet.

The building will feature an office and showroom on its southwest corner, facing Weber Road. The site will also include 20 parking spaces for rental trucks and 15 for customers.

The new facility will join with an adjacent storage facility purchased by U-Haul in 2017, officials said.

Another project by Ramco Transportation at 1400 Independence Drive will bring that site up to current code and install a new facade on the existing building located there, according to the news release.

"We're excited to be turning around two challenging sites on our major corridors," said Romeoville Mayor John Noak in a prepared statement. "New buildings and new businesses are always a positive for the local economy."

Both projects are up for final approval next year, with construction slated to begin sometime in 2019.
