Red Cross Starts Romeoville Blood Drive Amid Coronavirus Crisis
Type-O blood is in especially short supply.
ROMEOVILLE, IL — Village officials announced today that the Red Cross will be holding weekly blood drives at the Romeoville Athletic & Event Center located at 55 Phelps Avenue. Blood is in high demand as the coronavirus continues, especially as many would-be donors cancel their appointments due to concerns of becoming infected with coronavirus themselves.
“Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, there is a critical need for blood right now,” Mayor John Noak said in a village news release on the issue. “We are happy to allow the Red Cross to use our building to stage these life saving drives.”
The Red Cross will only collect blood from individuals who are healthy and feeling well at the time of donation. Those with type-O blood are especially urged to donate, as the Red Cross' supply of that particular blood type is especially low.

- Tuesday, April 14, 10 a.m – 4 p.m.
- Thursday, April 23, noon – 6 p.m.
- Thursday, April 30, 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.
- Thursday, May 13, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
- Thursday, May 21, 9 a.m.– 3 p.m.
- Thursday, May 28, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
In order to donate blood, appointments must be made in advance. Appointments can be scheduled at the Red Cross website or by phone at 800-733-2767. Some individuals may not be eligible to donate blood, even if they are otherwise healthy. To see if you are eligible, visit the relevant page on the Red Cross website.
