Student teams designed and programmed their own robots from a LEGO ROBOLABTM kit provided to each team on the day of competition. Each kit contained a microprocessor-based smart brick that uses sensor information to complete assigned tasks.

Teams received points based on a robot’s effectiveness in completing each challenge within a set period of time. They are also required to answer a series of science and math questions related to the competition with bonus points going toward their final score.
