Romeoville’s Lake Strini Renovation Set to Begin

Construction should begin this spring with a projected completion of March 2022.

In early 2020, the Village of Romeoville was awarded $382,800 in matching grant funds from Open Space Land And Development (OSLAD) for renovations to Lake Strini. Tonight, the Village Board approved a contract with Integral Construction to bring the renovations to reality. Construction should begin this spring with a projected completion of March 2022.

When the work is complete, the new Lake Strini will include native vegetation, a boardwalk extending across the lake, a butterfly garden, a rain garden, multiple stone outcropping fishing stations, sunning steps leading to the water edge, and decks. This project will also include a new bike repair station, fitness stations, and two baggo games for use.

“We look forward to the new nature experiences Lake Strini will be able to provide for our residents, students, and visitors,” said Mayor John Noak. “We would like to thank our state legislators for approving the funding that made the OSLAD grant and this project possible.”

The educational value of the Lake Strini improvements are expected to attract visitors from beyond the typical range of a neighborhood park and act as a destination for ecological and environmental education. The park is frequently used by community groups (scouts, fire department, conservation foundation) due to its unique ecological role in the community and as the only location where the public can fish.
