Rte. 53 Construction Begins This Week: IL Dept. Of Transportation
Drivers along Independence Boulevard (IL Route 53) should expect delays and occasional lane closures until October.
ROMEOVILLE, IL — Officials with the Illinois Department of Transportation announced Monday evening that construction work had begun on Independence Boulevard (IL Route 53) between Renwick Road and Murphy Drive in Romeoville. Department officials said the work consists of shoulder repair along Route 53, as well as adding center and shoulder rumble strips to the road.
The work is expected to be completed sometime in October of this year. Drivers on Route 53 should expect delays and intermittent lane closures until then.
"It's not going to have a huge impact on traffic, because of the fact that they're going to be doing mainly shoulder work," Illinois Department of Transportation spokesperson Maria Castaneda said. "They may have to do intermittent lane closures but it's not like they're closing down the roadway at any portion."
