Schools Explore Options For Reopening In Fall : VVSD

Teams across the district are developing plans for either in-person classes, virtual learning or a model with a blend of both.

ROMEOVILLE, IL — In a statement Thursday, Valley View School District said that it is continuing its efforts to be prepared for school to resume in the fall.

"We know everyone is anxious to know what the return to school will look like; however, the reality is that it is still too early to know what the health circumstances and official guidance will dictate," said Assistant Superintendent Rachel Kinder. "We do expect official guidance to evolve many times over the next nine weeks that will lead us to further refine plans as we develop a more accurate picture of what we can safely implement to support our students."

In compliance with Gov. Pritzker's orders, all Valley View public schools closed starting March 17 to try to contain the spread of the coronavirus.

But with Illinois starting to reopen, like school districts across the state, VVSD teams are also in the process of developing three different plans:

  • Complete on-site learning
  • Refining the remote learning system
  • Exploring a potential blended/hybrid model of in-class and online learning

Kinder thanked parents and guardians who took time to offer suggestions on the end of year survey for students, families and staff.

"This voice is being integrated into our planning efforts as we consider the many variables associated with instruction and student support, health and safety, family and personnel considerations, and support operations," she said.

She said the school district will communicate periodically as plans become more solidified and August approaches so that the staff, students and families have time to prepare for any necessary adjustments.

"Updates to the Valley View community will occur on a bi-weekly basis throughout the summer, or if any major developments occur," Kinder said.
