Fall has arrived, and the cool crisp days ahead are perfect weather for the final month of the Forest Preserve District of Will County’s 2015 “Woods Walk” challenge and photo contest.
This year’s program began on June 1 and it will conclude on Oct. 31.

Each year, the District selects 10 trails for its “Woods Walk” program. Participants hike the trails at their own pace and on their own time schedules. Those who complete seven of the 10 trails receive a collector’s medal that can be attached to a walking stick, hat or backpack. Participants who complete all 10 trails will qualify for a second gift.
“Woods Walk” hikers also are encouraged to snap photos of the nature that surrounds them during their treks.

Soaring birds, majestic trees, flowing creeks, and creatures big and small have all been recorded by “Woods Walk” participants in the past. Prizes will be awarded for the top three photos.
