4th Of July Fireworks 2021 Canceled In Skokie
Skokie public health officials advised fireworks and a parade would "likely still pose a significant health risk," organizers announced.
SKOKIE, IL — Though coronavirus cases continue to drop across the country and the number of those who are fully vaccinated continues to rise, many Independence Day celebrations have once again been canceled, modified or shifted to a remote format due to the pandemic.
Earlier this year, the Village of Skokie, Skokie Park District and Skokie Fourth of July Parade Committee agreed to cancel the parade and fireworks show for the second consecutive year.
In an April 27 joint statement, officials said the events required contracts and services to be secured months in advance.

"The July Fourth Parade and fireworks festival have been an important celebration in Skokie for decades," it said. "With that in mind, organizers will soon begin planning events for July 4, 2022."
While several north suburban communities have postponed their 2021 firework plans until Labor Day or, like Skokie, canceled them altogether, fireworks are scheduled to take place July 3 at Gillson Park in Wilmette and Arlington International Racecourse in Arlington Heights and July 4 at Gallery Park in Glenview and Deerpath Community Park in Lake Forest.
