SKOKIE, IL — A Skokie McDonald's is set to be torn down and rebuilt to update the restaurant to be more modern and sustainable, village officials announced.

The rebuild at the restaurant, at 5360 Touhy Ave, would allow for a two-lane drive-through, expanded digital operations and on-site solar panels. The goal, according to the plan commission, is to streamline traffic and to incorporate several sustainability measures.

"It aims to lower carbon emissions by reducing energy use and selecting more environmentally conscious materials, with the goal of meeting LEED Zero Carbon standards. Planned features include energy-efficient building systems, an upgraded building envelope, on-site solar panels, and lower-carbon construction materials," Plan Commission Chair Paul Luke said.
