5 Things To Do Outside This Weekend in Evanston and Skokie

Perfect weather awaits Chicagoland this weekend. Here's why you should spend it in Skokie or Evanston.

It’s going to be nice out this weekend. Temperatures in the 70s through with lots of sun and no sign of rain. Not too often we can look forward to something like this in Chicagoland.

So get out of the house, reintroduce yourself to your surroundings and enjoy the outdoor beauties of Skokie, Evanston and Sk-Evanston. Here are a few ideas.

  • Walk along the trails, hear the birds. You can do this on the Evanston lakefront, Skokie NorthShore Park or the Ladd Arboretum. The forest preserves in Skokie can also be a good idea.
  • Shop local. If you’ve spent the winter getting your shopping fix inside at Old Orchard Mall, we understand. It was rough outside. But this weekend, take a stroll along Central Street, the Chicago-Dempster corridor or Main St. in Evanston.
  • Take your toddler to the park. We have a few good options in the area for families with young children, including Snyder Park in Evanston and a couple on the Chicago side of the border in Rogers Park.
  • Get the friends together for a pick-up game. It’s not just the toddlers who should have all the fun. Check out the Evanston Park and Recreation Department to find a park near you or see if you can take part in the soccer games planned by the Ridgeville Park District.
  • Movie Location Tour. This is something you should do on a nice day to get the best photos. The house from Uncle Buck is in Evanston, at 2609 Lincoln St. Scenes from Road to Perdition, Sixteen Candles and Rookie of the Year were also filmed in Evanston. Skokie has a lot of film connections as well, including The Weather Man and Weird Science. You could also venture outside of the Skokie-Evanston region and find famous scenes from Risky Business, Home Alone, The Breakfast Club and others in the greater North Shore.
