Backed Up: Area Stores Sell Out Sump Pumps
Area home improvement stores are filled with customers looking for PVC piping, tubes and mops. The hottest item is sold out - sump pumps.
Skokie resident Phil Garcia is looking for a sump pump. But there's a problem: area home improvement stores are sold out.
"I just came back from Home Depot in Skokie," Garcia said. "They got nothing,"
Garcia said his basement only flooded with about two inches of water, but his neighbors aren't so lucky.

"My entire block [7900 East Prairie Road] is flooded," he said. "Some of my neighbors have six inches of water."
Garcia was at Lowes, 3601 W. Touhy Ave., around 10 a.m. looking for a sump pump. He wasn't having any luck.

"They don't have anything here either," he said. "They just have the small stuff."
Garcia wasn't alone.
Three Skokie residents who said they live in the 7500 block of Jerome Street also arrived at Lowes after visiting Home Depot in Skokie. The trio did not want to give out their names.
"I'm just looking for some plastic piping so I can suck the water out of my basement," one of them said. "I only have about two inches but my neighbor's basement - the water is knee deep."
Throughout the store you can see shopping carts stocked with vacuums, PVC piping and small-sized sump pumps. Others had loads of paper towels and mops inside their carts.
For Garcia, however, he wasn't giving up.
"I'm going to Standard Plumbing in Skokie," he said. "They'll have something there."
