Big Dogs Up For Adoption: That's A Lot Of Dog
Community Animal Rescue Effort is letting the community know some of their bigger furballs are ready for new homes.

SKOKIE, IL — Big dogs are great. They can keep up with you and even push you a bit, and give the slobberiest licks.
"Big dogs in the 90 lbs and above range require the right family, and ideally, a well-fenced yard," said Community Animal Rescue Effort, or CARE. "From a purebred Saint Bernard to two Cane Corso mastiffs to a Doberman mix, this adds up to a lot of Dog."
Here are some of the big furballs up for adoption now, alongside CARE's descriptions:

Colt
- Cane Corso Mastiff
- Male, neutered
- 90 pounds
- Born in 2017

I’m a handsome, laid-back fellow who wiggles with joy when people come to see me. I like to sit close and lean up against them, too. I get along well with dogs, even if they’re barking. My foster mom calls me “soft, sweet and trainable.” I make the volunteers laugh when we play tag because I’m a bit of a clumsy galoot. My ideal family is one who will take me on leisurely walks and play short games of fetch, and who won’t mind cleaning off my velvet soft jowls a few times a day. I’m ready to make you oh-so-happy.

Butkus
- Saint Bernard
- Male, neutered
- 160 pounds
- Born in 2016

I’m a big (160 lbs.!), strong guy, just like Chicago Bears linebacker Dick Butkus, who inspired my big, strong name. People who meet me find out what a goofy, slobbery wanna-be lap dog I am. (Drool cloths are a MUST, says my foster mom.) I adore attention and going for walks. Speaking of walks, volunteers find me to be pull-y and excited when we start walking, but they appreciate how I quickly settle down and walk nicely. My dream family will have lots of room in their home, won’t mind my drool-y nature, and will have a securely fenced back yard for me to romp in. I would love older kids to play with, too! (I tend to accidentally knock over little kids because I’m a big galoot)! I don't really like other dogs, so I would be best as a singleton.
