Chicago Weather: Blizzard Ahead for Cook, Lake Counties

Snowfall throughout Chicagoland is expected to hit record highs since February 2011. Starting at around 3 a.m., the evil white stuff known as "snow" will come pouring down, and it won't stop until early Wednesday morning, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

Various weather services are citing anywhere from 7 to 10 inches of snow.

"This will impact both rush hours on Tuesday, with the higher potential for heavy snowfall during the late afternoon and early evening rush hour," an NWS officials said.

The warning includes the following counties: Cook, DuPage, Lake, Kane and McHenry. Expect "heavy wet snow that will produce low visibility" and make travel difficult, the NWS said.

Snowfall rates are projected to be around 1 to 2 inches per hour.

Google Public Alerts issued the following information:

"The combination of heavy snow and northeasterly winds gusting to 25 to 30 mph at time later Tuesday into Tuesday night will cause blowing and drifting snow in open areas.

"This will impact both the morning and evening rush hours on Tuesday, with a greater potential for heavy snowfall during the late afternoon and early evening rush hour," the website added.

Travel at O'Hare International and Midway airports will likely be affected by the storm.
