Christmas 2018: Holiday Hours, Closures In Skokie
What's open, what's closed, and what's got special holiday hours from Christmas Eve to New Year's Day in Skokie this year.
SKOKIE, IL — The home stretch of the holiday season has arrived, with one more weekend to get ready to kick off the final week of 2018 with Christmas Eve on Monday. North Shore communities are making preparations to observe both the Christmas and New Year's holidays.
Last-minute shoppers will be out picking up presents and ingredients for holiday meals, travelers will be on the roads and in the air to meet family and friends for the festive period and most students will be enjoying their winter break through the start of 2019.
First responders and employees at some businesses will be working on Christmas and New Year's, but many area employers will be closed to give workers a chance to gather to share the holiday with loved ones.

Post office: Closed

Federal offices: Closed
Banks: Closed
Gas stations: Open
Skokie Village Hall: Closed Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.
Skokie Public Library: Closed on Dec. 24, 25. Closing at 5 p.m. on Dec. 31 and all day Jan. 1.
Skokie Public Schools: Closed for winter break through Jan. 4.
Refuse Collection: No recycling or trash collections will take place on Dec. 25, so Tuesday collection will take place Wednesday and the pickups for the rest of the week of the Christmas holiday will remain unchanged. During the week of the New Year's holiday, normal collections will take place Monday, Tuesday collection will occur on Wednesday and pickups the rest of the week will remain unchanged.
Skatium Ice Arena: Closed Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. Holiday public skating schedule from Dec. 24 to Jan. 6.
Old Orchard Shopping Center Holiday Hours: Open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 24. Closed Dec. 25. Open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 31 and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Jan. 1. More info...
