DePaul Blue Demons Clinch Big East Conference Tie

On Sunday, the DePaul Blue Demons women's basketball team defeated Xavier 97-65 to clinch at least a tie in the Big East Conference, their 6th in the last seven seasons. It was a perfect sendoff for seniors Kelly Campbell and Chante Stonewall in their last regular season home game.

It was the fifth consecutive win and brought the Demons to 24-3 overall and 14-1 in Big East Conference play. The Demons are ranked 13th nationally and 1st in the Big East.

Sophomore Lexi Held led the Demons with 27 points. Chante Stonewall had 15 points, with Campbell netting nine points with eight assists.

Campbell's last assist was a memorable one. With Coach Doug Bruno ready to pull both seniors to give them their moment, Campbell passed to Stonewall for a layup. It seemed a beautiful and natural way to go out together at home. With that, the senior duo walked off their home court for the last time to a huge ovation from the crowd.

The Demons had three away games left in the season. On Friday, the Demons go to Georgetown, followed by a game at Villanova on Sunday, before ending their regular season at Marquette on March 1. The fun starts again on March 6 when the Big East Tournament starts.

Wintrust Arena hosts the Big East Tournament March 6-9. The Demons will be going for their 3rd consecutive Big East Tourney win.

All of these elite players, but especially the hometown Demons, deserve a capacity crowd. I have been fortunate enough to be seated in press row the last three tournaments. It has been amazing seeing the action up close, but it is fantastic viewing no matter where you sit at Wintrust.
