Dozens Of Skokie Restaurants Are Now Open For Outdoor Dining

More than 50 Skokie restaurants have opened outdoor dining areas after the state moved into a new phase of its reopening plan.

SKOKIE, IL — Ten days after the expiration of Gov. J.B. Pritzker's coronavirus stay-at-home order and the modification of some restrictions on businesses and activities, more than 50 Skokie restaurants have begun offering outdoor dining, according to village staff.

Anywhere that already has a private patio, rooftop or an open-window space where at least half of a wall can be removed is able to begin offering on-site dining services in Phase 3 of the governor's Restore Illinois reopening plan.

In late May, Pritzker modified the plan to allow outdoor dining, with restaurant owners across the state given guidelines from state regulators only six days before the governor's new executive orders took effect May 29.

In Skokie, village officials waived the application fee and permit requirements to expedite new sidewalk cafe permits. Businesses that already had them will not have to pay a renewal fee, according to the village.

All restaurants must follow Restore Illinois Phase 3 bar and restaurant guidance from state and local officials, including keeping tables at least 6 feet apart, wearing masks whenever not seated at a table and regularly disinfecting common areas.
