Halloween 2019 Activities In Skokie

Find local trick-or-treating hours and family-friendly Halloween weekend events.

Halloween weekend is here, which means plenty of eerie activities for local families to take part in all the way through Thursday, Oct. 31. Take a look at a quick rundown of some family-friendly Halloween activities planned in Skokie — or add your local event to the Skokie Patch calendar for free.

Scream Scene
The annual haunted house at the Skokie Water Playground heads into its 22nd year. The event is open Oct. 25, 26, 27, 31 and Nov. 1 from 7 p.m. and offers a less scary "lights on" daytime event on Saturday. The house closes at 10 p.m. on Fridays, 11 p.m. Saturday and 9 p.m. on Sundays and on Halloween night. Tickets are available online. Scream Scene is not recommended for children under age 10.

Halloween Public Skate
All ages are invited to come to the costume contest and family-friendly Halloween public skate from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, at the Skatium Ice Arena. The event is free for those not skating.

Monster Bash
From 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 26, at the Oakton Community Center, 4701 Oakton St., the Skokie Park District invites children aged 1 and up to celebrate Halloween with carnival games, prizes, crafts and family entertainment. Tickets are required and include Exploritorium play.

Downtown Skokie Trick-or-Treat
Costumed children 12 and under are invited to trick-or-treat at downtown Skokie businesses with a pumpkin poster in their windows between 1 and 3 p.m. Satruday, Oct. 26.

Campfire Fun
After the downtown Skokie trick-or-treat event, the Skokie Public Library is hosting a family-friendly event from 3 to 4 p.m. at the Village Green outside the library with spooky fun, a crackling fire with marshmallows and s'mores, Halloween trivia and songs.

Halloween Trick-or-Treat Hours
Skokie's official trick-or-treating hours run from 3 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 31. Village officials asked those taking part to refrain from ringing doorbells before or after that window and to only ring doorbells of home with porch lights left on.

Pumpkin Recycling
To recycle your pumpkins after Halloween, come to the Skokie Farmers' Market between 8:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 1, in the parking lot across from Village Hall, 5127 Oakton St. Make sure to get rid of any candles or other decorations from pumpkins.
