Images Of Skokie Synagogue Hate Crime Suspects Released

SKOKIE, IL — Police are looking to identify two people and an SUV involved in this week's vandalism of a Skokie synagogue.

In images captured from surveillance video around 12:15 p.m. Sunday, one man is seen placing a sign saying "Freedom for Palestine" on the door of the Persian Hebrew Congregation at 3820 Main St.

Another figure gets out of a gray Honda Pilot SUV, walks up to the building with a stick and smashes a front window, leaving the stick behind, police said.

Police said the first suspect was wearing a black t-shirt emblazoned with the word "Icon" in red.

He also had a white, red, black and green keffiyeh on his head and a black and white checkered mask on his face, along with black jeans and black shoes.

The second suspect had dark brown hair and wore a multi-colored keffiyeh around their forehead.

They also had on dark-tinted sunglasses, a black mask, a blue hoodie, a red t-shirt, light-colored jeans and red sneakers.

Police said the stick-carrying vandal's shirt had light-colored lettering on the front, but it was not clear from the video what it said.

Skokie police classified the incident as a hate crime due to its apparent motivation.

Under Illinois law, a hate crime committed against a religious building is a class 2 felony, which can be punished by anything from probation to seven years in state prison.
