Monday Blotter: Sleeping Behind the Wheel

Residential Burglary

A home in the 9400 block of Tripp Avenue was reported burglarized on Feb. 20. The offender(s) entered through an unlocked window, police said. It is unknown if anything was stolen at this time, the report stated.

DVDs, clothing stolen from auto

Several DVDs and pieces of clothing were reported stolen from a car parked in the 9200 block of Gross Point Road on Feb. 20.

Vehicle vandalism

A car parked in the 9300 block of East Prairie Road was reported vandalized on Feb. 19. According to the report, there was a dent on the front passenger side of the vehicle. 

Multiple vehicles vandalized

Multiple car owners reported that an unknown person(s) smashed their vehicle windows in the 4600 block of Brummel Street on Feb. 20.

Sleeping at wheel leads to cocaine bust

Chester Rankin, 50, of Skokie, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and unlawful possession of a controlled substance on Feb. 21. Rankin was stopped in the 9400 block of Kenton Avenue because he was sleeping behind the wheel at a green light, police said. When police investigated, they found a large sum of money, cocaine and drug paraphernalia, according to police.

DUI

Mariano Garcia, 40, of Chicago, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol on Feb. 20. Police did not say where Garcia was stopped.

Sarije Kabaski, 31, of Chicago, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol on Feb. 19. Police did not say where Kabaski was stopped.
