Featured Obituary:
Roger D. Campfield, 64, passed away peacefully with family at his side on April 19, 2021. Tenacious, intelligent, and resilient as ever, Roger was born on February 18, 1957, in Chicago, IL. Although Roger lived many places throughout the country over his life, his true home and heart resided in Glencoe, IL, moving there in 1965 with his parents and sister, Roger Campfield, Dorothy Campfield, and Martha Campfield. While in Glencoe, Roger lived a very active and colorful life. He attended South School and Central School, at which he developed many strong friendships as well as his significant love for sports, both of which remained strong until his passing. Roger continued his colorful and active life into his teenage years, beginning high school at New Trier in 1971, transitioning to Lake Forest Academy shortly after, and finishing at Judson School in Arizona. Over this time, Roger excelled at almost every sport available to him from childhood, including baseball, hockey, and track & field.
After graduating Judson School in 1975, Roger joined the United States Air Services, one of his most beloved institutions, and worked overseas in the United Kingdom for roughly two – three years. After this time, Roger met and married his wife, eventually having his first and only child, Brooke Campfield. The three of them moved back to his revered state of Arizona where they settled and Roger began a new chapter of his life. Roger loved living in Arizona with his new family and worked at the Arizona State Prison during his cherished time in the Grand Canyon State.
Sadly, Roger’s plans changed drastically when he experienced an extremely debilitating accident at the young age of 25. He moved back to Glencoe, IL, where he remained until the passing of his father, Roger E. Campfield, in 1997. At this point, Roger moved on to the next chapter of his life at Over the Rainbow in Evanston, IL. He remained an active resident at Over the Rainbow throughout the course of his residency there and enjoyed spending time with friends & family, exploring the outdoors of Evanston, and everything apple/technology related. He built computers, kept up with all sports, and liked keeping up with current events.
Roger continued his active and colorful life until its end. His life was filled with high levels of vitality and love for those closest to him. Surviving family members are his daughter, Brooke Campfield, sister, Martha Campfield (Rodney McKinney), and niece, Brittany Fawcett. Roger continued to be a source of support and wisdom to his family and friends until his final days. His compassion and care will be missed tremendously.Read more from Kelley & Spalding Funeral Home »
