Featured Obituary:
The sun rose on Sara Elizabeth Young Clark on September 24, 1936. Sara was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee to her late parents Mable and Louis Rogers Young, Sr. Sara had four siblings, Carole Jones (Norman), Louis Rogers Young, Jr. (Mildred), Kay Solomon (Clifford), and Linda Young. Carole and Louis Jr. proceeded her in death.
Sara's family relocated to Chicago in 1947, where she lived on the South Side and completed High School at Hyde Park High School. She later went on to attended Chicago Teachers College where she majored in Art Education. Sara also attended The Art Institute of Chicago where she specialized in Oil Painting. Sara later went on to obtain a master's degree in Science Education at Northwestern University.
On July 19, 1959, Sara married Walter Clark. To this union four children were born: Donna (Felix) Ortiz, Leah Clark, Aaron Clark, and Rachel (Bobby J.) Hardiman. Throughout Sara's career as a teacher, she taught at Hess Upper Grade Center in Chicago, and Dawes Elementary School in Evanston.
Sara and Walter relocated to Evanston, Illinois, and Sara worked at Dawes until she retired. During Sara's tenure at Dawes, she was at the top of the Merit Scale, and was named a Master Teacher. Sara was a VISIONARY! Sara's vision enabled her to develop innovative curriculums inspired by her love of art.
Sara was well respected among the parents. She was a member of the PTA and, the President of the Black Teacher's Association. Sara was a very friendly 'and an outgoing person. Her personality was electric. Sara taught Sunday school at the Mennonite Church and Vacation Bible School at Second Baptist Church.
She was a good daughter to her parents, great sister, good wife, good mother, loyal friend, and always kept in touch with her relatives throughout the years. Sara was an excellent cook, homemaker, and stylish dresser. She was a Worldwide Traveler.
