Featured Obituary:

Catherine King Tucker, 79, of Lake Forest, IL passed away on March 31, 2021. She was born on December 13, 1941 in Evanston, IL to Charles and Catherine (nee Morley) King.

Cathy graduated from New Trier High School in 1959; she went on to become a graduate of Bradford Jr. College, Catherine Gibbs Secretarial School in New York and the Toby Colburn School of Fashion Design in New York. She started her career as an Executive Trainee at Carson, Pirie, Scott in Chicago where she met her husband Bert Tucker. After they were married, she became Secretary for the President of the First National Bank of Winnetka. Later she volunteered at the Lake Forest Senior Center and soon she was hired as a secretary where she worked for thirteen years.

Cathy was a dedicated member of many different organizations throughout her life; she was a member of the Evanston Jr. League where she volunteered at the Thrift House. Cathy was a dedicated member of the Northshore chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) for over 50 years. She served as Regent with distinction of the North Shore Chapter NSDAR from 2006-2010 and was named Honorary Regent in 2019. During Cathy’s Regency the North Shore Chapter was awarded a silver tray by Illinois State for first place in New Membership Gain category. The Illinois State Outstanding National Defense Award was granted to North Shore Chapter for contributing to the insurgency fight in Afghanistan by sending coats and shoes to Afghan children. Cathy was instrumental in partnering with Village Quilters to successfully make wheelchair quilts which were donated to veterans at Hines Veterans Hospital and Lovell Hospital at Great Lakes. Many Bingo parties for veterans, Benefit Luncheons, American History Essay & Good Citizen Honorees for Student’s awards were successful endeavors through Cathy. Each of which reached the educational, historic, and patriotic goals of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.

Cathy also was an active member of the Village Quilters of Lake Bluff. Her passion for quilting met a broad audience from family, grandchildren, friends, veterans and being a member of two quilting Bee’s. She quilted for the Quilts of Valor program, veterans’ hospitals and being a prolific quilter for many years she showed quilts in the Village Quilters Quilt show biannually.

When her three sons joined Cub Scouts she volunteered as a Den Leader and Den Leader Coach. When her sons moved into Boy Scout Troop 46 in Lake Forest, she became a Membership Chair on the Troop Committee.

Cathy was chair of the New Trier High School Class of 1959, 50th Reunion and continued as chair for the 55th and the 60th reunions.
