Seniors Targeted in Ruse Burglary

The following arrest information was supplied by the Skokie Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Battery

Police responded to a battery complaint in the 8600 block of Hamlin Avenue on April 17 around 9 a.m.

According to police, a man invited his neighbor into his home, kissed her on the cheek and then said he wanted to make love to her. The woman denied his request and called police.

Ruse burglary

Officers responded to a residential burglary in the 9700 block of Kedvale Avenue on April 17. According to police,  an unknown offender approached an elderly victim's home and told them that he was doing flood control work next door and he needed to show them something in the yard.

The offender walked out of the rear door with the victims.  Meanwhile, a second offender entered the upstairs bedroom and stole jewelry from the master bedroom. 

The first subject was described as a Hispanic male, 40 to 46-years-of-age, short, a stocky build and wearing a red Boston Red Sox baseball hat, police said.  The second offender was not seen by the victims. 

All in all, about $3,900 worth of jewelry was stolen.

Theft at DSW

A man entered DSW Shoe Warehouse, 9601 Skokie Blvd., and stole 10 purses valued at a $150 each before exiting the store and fleeing in an SUV, police said.

The suspect was described as a black male, 45 to 50-years-of-age, 6-foot-2, 200-pounds, wearing a black hat, black trench coat and grey sweat pants, police said.

Retail theft

Jennifer Escobar, 19, of Skokie and Kirlcia Clark, of Wisconsin, were both charged with retail theft on April 16. The duo entered Sephora, 4999 Old Orchard Center, and attempted to steal several items from the store.

Unhappy customer

An offender called Macy’s to place an order over the phone on April 17.  However, when the caller's credit card was declined the subject told the employee that she was going to shoot the employee, police said.
