Alternate side parking rules go into effect whenever there is a snowfall of 2 inches or greater in the village.
When snow accumulation reaches 4 inches or more, village public works crews are set to plow sidewalks. Alleys are plowed if accumulation rises to at least 6 inches.

Village staff encouraged residents to comply with the temporary parking rules to make it easier for their neighbors to park. Violators may be ticketed.
Residents were also asked to clear the snow from the sidewalks in front of their homes to ensure they are passable. And all businesses are required under village code to clear snow and ice from surrounding sidewalks within 24 hours of the end of the storm.
For those unable to clear snow themselves, village staff maintain a database of teens who are available to shovel snow.
Residents may request the list, which includes the teen's availability, expected rate of pay and contact information, by email or post. More information is available by calling 847-933-8208 or via email.
Free temporary parking in several publicly owned lots is in effect until the rules expire at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Parking is allowed in the portion of the North Skokie Swift parking lot closes to Gross Point Road, in the village-owned lot on the north side of Oakton Street west of the Edens Expressway and in the CTA Yellow Line parking lot on the northwest corner of Skokie Boulevard and Searle Parkway.
Not all Skokie streets are within the village's jurisdiction, staff noted. Major thoroughfares like Church Street, Crawford Avenue, Golf Road, McCormick Boulevard, Old Orchard Road, Skokie Boulevard, Touhy Avenue, sections of Oakton Street and others are controlled by the Cook County or Illinois departments of transportation, which are responsible for clearing snow.
Skokie's snow removal fleet includes about 35 units, eight tracked plows, four tractors and other equipment, according to village staff. An estimated 250 tons of snow are dumped on village streets in a typical snow event.
