Skokie, IL, Tuesday November 17, 2020—Today the Skokie Community Foundation announced the grant recipients for the 2021 calendar year.

This year SCF is awarding a total of $28,000 in grants. The Foundation sought proposals specifically designed to address the COVID-19 pandemic and its effect on Village residents. All of the grants support residents negatively impacted by the pandemic.

This year’s recipients are:

$10,000.00 grant: Skokie School District 69, Turning Point Behavioral Health, LensCrafters and Preferred Dentistry Associates for a Pilot Voucher Program to provide uninsured and underinsured students greater access to cost free-dental, vision and mental health services. The need for these services has been increased by the pandemic’s impact on the lives of students and their families.

$8,000.00 grant: The Village of Skokie Human Services Department and Oakton Community College for a Workforce Training Pilot Initiative in which village residents, recently unemployed due to COVID-19, will enroll in short term certificate programs at OCC and upon completion be able to re-enter the workforce with greater job skills and employment opportunities.

$5,000.00 grant: JCFS/Chicago and the Skokie Public Library for a Self-Care and Mental Wellness Program for teens who will meet weekly under the supervision of trained mental health professionals to discuss personal and social challenges, including those which have been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

$5,000.00 grant: Turning Point Behavioral Health and Apna Ghar, Inc for a project entitled “Caring for Families in the New Normal”, wherein the organizations will present a series of virtual, multi-cultural and multi-lingual presentations to Skokie families addressing the mounting mental health issues and growing incidents of domestic violence due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
