Celvia K. Moy, 84, passed away peacefully and surrounded by her loving family on May 5, 2021 in Skokie, IL.

Celvia was born in China in 1936 to Shong Keen Ng and Fone Yee Lee Ng. She was a beloved sister to Wayland, Patrick, and Grace. When Celvia was 19 years old, Celvia married Grant E. Moy, who was serving in the United States Air Force. After living a year in Japan where Grant was stationed, they settled in Chicago, IL where they raised their three children, Barton (Joanie), Diane (David) and Alice (Craig). In Chicago, she and Grant bought the Chinese restaurant, “Good Earth,” which they owned for over 25 years. Celvia was the head chef and best chef in town.

Celvia was most proud of her children and eight grandchildren (Christopher, Sarah, Rachel, Kasey, Joseph, Anne, Sela and Matthew). Celvia helped raise all of her grandchildren and continued to fill their bellies with her infamous Chinese dishes, even after they sold their restaurant.

We will always remember Celvia’s good humor, strong and positive spirit, and love for gardening, cooking, her church and her friends. We are reassured knowing she’s reunited with Grant and with God in Heaven.

A private family memorial will be held at the Lake Forest Cemetery where she will be laid to rest next to her husband, Grant, and her grandson, Christopher. A virtual celebration will be held in the summer - more details to be scheduled at a later date.
