Skokie Park District: Oshana Wins Board Of Commissioners' Seat

Skokie voters spoke yesterday, with Mary Oshana newly-elected to the Skokie Park District board of commissioners. Oshana, born and raised in Skokie, was elected to a six-year term, defeating incumbent Michael Alter and two other candidates.

Oshana, who works in capital planning and facilities management, also established the Assyrian Community Fund of Greater Chicago, along with her husband Joseph Hermiz, in order to provide critical information and resources to Assyrian families who are often left behind in times of crisis. She is set to be sworn in at the May 18 board of commissioners meeting.

In related news, park board vice-president Khemarey Khoeun was elected as a new Village of Skokie trustee last night. The park board will appoint a commissioner to fill the vacancy left by Khoeun's departure.

According to the Cook County Clerk, the final results of last night's election were:

Skokie Park District: Commissioner
Mary Oshana – 1,691 votes
Julianna Oh – 1,247 votes
Michael Alter – 697 votes
Regina Yonan – 558 votes
