Sweety Pies In Skokie To Close At End Of Summer
The family-owned bakery announced plans to permanently shutter in August after a dozen years in downtown Skokie.

SKOKIE, IL — The owners of Sweety Pies in Skokie plan to sell the shop and leave the bakery business at the end of the summer. The last day of business will be in late August at the 8042 Lincoln Ave. location, according to a message earlier this month.
"We are going to be hanging up our aprons, putting down our oven mitts and retiring from the bakery business," it said. "We hope to find someone to carry on the legacy of Sweety Pies."
The family of bakers behind the business thanked the customers they had come to know over the past dozen years in Skokie.

"We have enjoyed meeting so many amazing people who have become family and seeing so many kids grow up from being so little to graduating from college," they said, in the May 3 post.
"We will miss sharing stories and laughs and being a key part of so many celebrations, from weddings to baby showers to birthday parties. We truly feel blessed that we have been able to live our dream for so long, thanks to the amazing support of our customers, their families and friends."

According to the Skokie Review, the elder members of the family are retiring, their daughter plans to move to Milwaukee and have more children while their son is also expecting another child. The biggest share of the business is the creation of custom cakes, according to Pioneer Press.
Sweety Pies' founders, the Kruger family, are accepting offers from people interested in buying the business or its equipment. In addition to the Lincoln Avenue location, Sweety Pies goods will be for sale every Saturday at the Evanston Farmer's Market from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
