Three District 65 Teachers Named Golden Apple Finalists

Three teachers from Evanston/Skokie School District 65 are among 30 finalists for a 2015 Golden Apple award.
Andrea Macksoon, a third-grade teacher at Oakton Elementary, Greg Daniels, a kindergarten teacher at Oakton and James Schamber, a second-grade teacher at Orrington Elementary, will be honored at a Celebration of Excellence on April 11.

“District 65 is very fortunate to have dedicated educators like Mr. Daniels, Ms. Macksood, and Mr. Schamber who are truly committed to making a difference in the lives of our children,” said Superintendent Paul Goren. “Their passion for this profession exemplifies what it means to serve every child, every day, whatever it takes.”
The awards recognize and honor outstanding teachers for their role in building a stronger, better-educated society. This year’s finalists were selected from a pool of more than 600 nominations.

The 30 finalists will experience a final round of review and classroom observations prior to the selection and announcement this spring of the 10 award recipients. Each Golden Apple Award recipient receives a tuition-free, spring quarter sabbatical to study at Northwestern University. Each recipient also receives a $5,000 cash award.
