Turry Pulls Out Mayoral Victory in Lincolnwood

It's official, incumbent Mayor Jerry Turry wins another four years as Mayor of Lincolnwood.

After deciding not to seek a third term as mayor in October of 2012, Mayor Jerry Turry had a change of heart.

"I was out of the race, I was fed up with it and I thought about going out of it," Turry told roughly 100 supporters at Lou Malnati's in Lincolnwood on Election Day. "With three days left before I had to turn my papers in to run again, I got a call [from a friend] who said not only should I run again, but that I could win."

As it turns out, his friend was right.

Of the 8,811 registered voters in Lincolnwood, 2,193 voted for Lincolnwood's next mayor. Turry came out on top with 844 votes while his opponent,  Georgia Talaganis, finished with 769 votes. Meanwhile, former mayor Peter Moy finished third with 556 votes.

"We let the other party know that they weren't the only ones who could play dirty and we did what we had to do," Turry said.

The newly reelected village president thanked the Korean and Jewish community for helping him seal his victory.

"I am deeply indebted to you," he said at his party. "And I am deeply indebted to the other Independents who said, 'Mayor, we will run [as trustees] with you."

Turry lost support of the current slate of trustees who went on to back Talaganis. That group formed the Independent Party of Lincolnwood (IPOL) while Turry ran as an Independent.

Turry has said in the past that he is in favor of creating a fourth TIF district in Lincolnwood and wants to work with Jake Weiss in redeveloping the Purple Hotel.

The current board of trustees now looks like this:

  • Lawrence Elster (IPOL)*
  • John Swanson (IPOL)*
  • Craig Klatzco (Independent)*
  • Renee Sprogis-Marohn
  • Nicholas Leftakes
  • Jesal Patel

*Newly elected
