Wednesday Blotter: Skokie Squatters Spotted

Squatters spotted
Police responded to a criminal damage complaint in the 8900 block of Lavergne Avenue on Dec. 6. According to the report, a real estate company told police they believe “squatters” were living in the basement of an apartment unit. Upon inspection, police found two people in the basement who said, “We will get out of your hair.” They would later flee on foot via the back door, the report stated. No arrests were made.
Vehicle vandalism

A man reported that his vehicle was scratched and dented in the 7900 block of Babb Street on Nov. 29.
Stolen wallet

A woman reported her wallet stolen after visiting a business in the 4800 block of Golf Road on Nov. 30.
Public urination
Police chased a 37-year-old Skokie man after they witnessed him publicly urinating near an alley in the 4900 block of Dempster Street. It was later determined, however, that the man suffered from a mental disability and was transported to Skokie Hospital for evaluation.
Graffiti
Police observed graffiti on a United States Postal Service mailbox in the 5100 block of Main Street on Dec. 5.
Theft from auto
A backpack and $2 in change were reported stolen from a vehicle parked in the 8200 block of Niles Center on Dec. 6.
Liquor theft
Several bottles of Ciroc Vodka were reported stolen from Jewel, 9449 Skokie Blvd., on Dec. 6. According to the report, store security saw the man take the bottles and flee the store via security cameras. No arrests were made.
